July Staff Notes

Joseph, Hailey and oldest son Micah.

As one of the leaders of The Leadership Center, I would like to take a moment to tell you all how excited I am about the progress of the school since our first group of students came to campus in February of 2011. To provide a little background, my family moved onto campus less than one month after the students. My intention was to move down as a volunteer teacher for one year and return to the US, but God certainly had different plans.

After moving back to the US in December of 2011, many things have happened on campus that get me extremely excited about the future of our students and the future of The Leadership Center. I had the privilege of spending the last week on campus, and the work that the staff has done over the last seven months was shocking. Ranging from aesthetical changes to improved curriculum, The Leadership Center has come a long way.

Bennon and Jana came to campus in April of this year to serve as the deans of education. They have done a great job improving our curriculum and teaching structure on campus.

Seyda (and her husband, Juan Carlos) came to campus approximately the same time and is our director on campus. She has made some great improvements and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing her in action. Info on Jana, Bennon and Seyda can be seen here.

Many new volunteer teachers have come over the last seven months and have done a great job educating our students. It is clear to see in their English capabilities and eagerness to learn that The Leadership Center is truly making a difference in the lives of the students. I am honored and privileged to be a part of such an amazing project, and I excited to see what our students do as the future leaders of Honduras.

Thank you to everyone who has been involved, whether it is helping in the US with administrative tasks or loading containers, or as donors or volunteer teachers, your dedication to this project is extremely valuable and I hope you understand that you truly are making a difference. I saw this first-hand during my stay in 2011 and witnessed it once again this last week. It is an honor to serve with you!
