Art For Humanity Genesis
In 2001, we became friends with a group of undocumented immigrants from Honduras living in Arlington. we soon realized these young men were totally cut off from their families and were , for the most part, illiterate in Spanish as well as English.
From our background in the social sciences, realized the problems created when people are cut off from families. So, we decided to visit the families in Honduras. We made videos of the men here and videos of the families in Honduras allowing each to see and hear the other.
Using our vacation time to make two such trips, we quickly discovered the tremendous destitution of Honduras.
Poverty was nothing new to Evans. He volunteered part-time for 12 years in a homeless shelter in Washington, D.C. and served as a volunteer in India. But, the poverty of Honduras touched him in new ways. Evans wanted to find a practical solution to the poverty that would also help gen•erate an "industry" for these families and their towns. Thus Art For Humanity was born.
