Art For Humanity has two unique qualities about it.
First, funds donated to Art For Humanity are multiplied on average by a factor of five. In other words, a $200 donation is transformed into $1000 worth of help to those in need. This kind of leverage is unheard of among most other charities. (Details below)
Second, the result of our efforts to assist the poor of Honduras is also slowing the flow of illegal immigrants into the U.S. Honduras is the second poorest country in the western hemisphere. Those contemplating an illegal crossing do so out of
desperation. We are offering them hope with an alternative way to provide for their family. This allows a family to remain together rather than be divided by an illegal crossing. Many good hearted people do not realize the destruction brought upon families by illegal immigration. A high percentage of families involved in illegal immigration disintegrate. Art For Humanity is helping those families remain together.....a key to overcoming poverty.
Whatever you could do will be appreciated.
Multiplying Your Donation Dollar
Financial donations made to Art For Humanity are multiplied by a factor of at least five.
Several factors make this possible:
First of all, Art For Humanity is an all volunteer organization with virtually no overhead – no salaries, no warehouse space, etc.
Unlike most charities, we do not distribute money. That is we do not give money away, nor do we buy things for people. We collect used items. We give those used items to the poor; they keep some of those items for their own use and they sell the rest. With the sale money they:
(a) Buy materials to build a home.....most of the families we work with are homeless.
(b) Pay for school expenses so their children can stay in school.....most families we work with cannot afford to keep their children in school.
(c) Buy the things needed to begin a small family business. With the small business they are able to provide for the needs of their family. Creating art and craft items is one example of a home based family business.....and it is where our name comes from.
Shipping represents 98% of our expenses and we partner with business and the U.S. government and military to minimize those costs.
Bottom line
People donate used clothing, appliances, computers, shoes, etc. It cost us about $5000 per container to ship those items. If we were not working in partnership with Chiquita Banana using their empty containers to ship our humanitarian donations and if we were not an all volunteer organization, the cost to ship those items would be closer to $20,000.
When the donations are given to the poor, they have a street value of approximately $30,000 per container. After the recipients use what they need and give much of the cargo to others in need, they may sell the remainder to buy things they need. $30,000 worth of cargo is delivered for $5000. Last year, we delivered well over $180,000 worth of humanitarian assistance and our expenses were only $30,000. With that $30,000 investment, among other things, we were able to build 4 new homes, a new school, pay for three students to attend college, pay for 76 children to attend grade school and high school, assisted seven families to begin new businesses, provided vitamins to many pregnant and nursing women, helped to begin a woman's shelter, assisted the Peace Corps with renovation of two schools and a library, provided computers to five schools and one satellite college to train rural teacher. That represents a significant multiplication of donation dollars. To accomplish the same thing, most other charities would have needed a budget of at least $500,000.
We have been told by leading law enforcement and Latino gang prevention officers in Honduras as well as in the U.S. that our efforts represent the very best ways of preventing young men from becoming members of violent gangs.
When you make a financial donation to Art For Humanity, you are making an excellent investment in a better and safer world.
